Here Comes Summer:
As I write, the country is sizzling in a heatwave. Good news for many after a year of rain, almost daily. But the water shortage is near at hand. That’s going to be a big problem as always but there is a lot of water in the lakes and rivers locally but if you are old and have no way of bringing this water to your house, it’s a different story. The days of the neighbour helping out are long gone. Some are dead and the rural districts are ghostly areas due to emigration thanks to the government. The whole thing is in a sad state right now but then there are certain people who refuse help due to proudness which is still rifle even in this region. Some things never change.

Bingo:
Ballinamuck Bingo on Tuesdays, Ballinamore on Tuesdays, Moyne Thursdays, Drumreilly every Friday night and Carrigallen returns in a few weeks time with their big Sunday night Bingo on Sunday August 4th.

Broken Promises:
As I write this week, I’m ashamed to be Irish due to the bringing into law of abortion. It’s been rammed down our throats. Why was it not put to the people to decide?

Arva Fair Day:
Arva Town was well-known down the years for the streets fairs. Shop owners made their money from those big days as people got paid by cash for their cattle but the advent of the Mart did away with all of that. Now the town is hosting a Fair Day on August 4th in Mills’s Yard at Lower Main Street on the Longford Road. There will be stalls and fairground attractions. It’s all part of the three province gathering. Big crowds are expected.

Roads Taken Over by Hooligans:
How come that our local elected representatives are not doing whatsoever about the hooligans that are causing trouble to people in the Moyne, Arva and Carrigallen region area over the last few months and years? They have been very quiet. Beside one elected county council member, young hoodlums are doing Ring Road hand brake turns a stone’s throw away from him. How is that he and his family can sleep with all this carry-on? It’s now been learned that the Sunday World newspaper is doing a feature on this problem that will cause a lot of red faces when it appears.
