Church News: The weekday Masses together with Saturday7pm and Sunday 11am. have reverted back to the newly refurbished Church of St Mary’s Annaduff which is looking splendid both inside and out. Masses in Drumsna on Sunday 9.30 and Friday 7pm followed by Exposition continue while the renovation of the Church of the Immaculate Conception takes place. Annaduff people in the news: Congratulations are extended to newly appointed District Justice James Faughnan of Corduff and Carrick-on-Shannon on his recent appointment. James is a son of the late Mary and Councillor Jim Faughnan who must be proudly looking down from Heaven. Best wishes to James,Mary and family. Congratulations are also extended to Joanna Duignan, Gortinee on her wonderful performance at the Woodies DIY AAI under 18 400m championship at Tullamore recently where she took gold. Joanna was also picked for the Irish Schools Team to compete in the schools International 300m and 4X 300m in Morton Stadium on Saturday next July 20th. Joanna is the daughter of Teresa and Phillip Duignan Gortinee and we wish this talented young athlete (and champion Irish dancer)the very best of luck in her sporting career.
The Annaduff Parish Gathering: The Parish gathering is living up to it’s name with hundreds of Annaduff natives getting ready to converge on every end of the Parish for the last weekend in July. There is a wonderful menu of Traditional singing ,dancing and music, Historical tours etc. The programme is almost complete and leaflets and posters are ready. The weekend commences on Friday evening July 26th with a ‘’Welcome Home’’ evening in Annaduff G.A.A. Centre with well known singer and songwriter Fionnuala Maxwell as M.C. where the talent of the Parish will be on show. On Saturday morning a bus tour covering the top end of the Parish will take place from 10am until 1pm led by Des Guckian who has published many books of interest, including Fr. Manning, The History of Annaduff G.A.A. The History of Annaduff called The Annals of Annaduff, a few copies of these books will be available on the day. The tour which starts in the car Park of St. Mary’s Church Annaduff includes visits to Co. Leitrim’s tidiest town, Dromod , Derrycarne, St. Ann’s Graveyard and the Abbey grounds together with references to many places in between. The bus costs €5 per head. Also on Saturday will be The Francis Lynch Memorial football blitz for National School children at 2pm, there will be lots of interesting side shows at the pitch including Boxty making demo. On Saturday evening at 8.30pm a Ceili Mor takes place in the G.A.A. centre for young and old, so get the dancing shoes ready. Sunday morning sees ‘’Welcome to the Gathering’’Church Services with a special Mass in Drumsna at 9.30am. Service in St. Ann’s church of Ireland at 10am. Mass in Annaduff at 11am for the re-dedication of the beautifully refurbished St. Mary’s, Everyone is welcome to attend all or any of the Churches. There will then be a slot of free time until after Lunch. At 3.30pm there will a walking tour of the Historical village of Drumsna led by Noel Duignan .Visit the Shannon Quay side, the Shannon side walk at the oldest bridge on the Shannon, the grave of Explorer Thomas Heazle Parke , the Robert Strawbridge Monument, the Inn where novelist Anthony Trollope commenced the writing of the Macdermots of Ballycloran, the Church of the Immaculate Conception with it’s beautiful stained glass windows and much more, Patricia O’Reilly will bring the children on their own magical tour of Fairyland at the same time. (If the weather is unfavourable a talk will take place instead of the walk) Afterwards everyone is invited to the Drumsna Community Centre for a step back in time where locals will re- enact some old time traditions and fun. You might even meet the future Rose of Tralee there. Light refreshments will be provided afterwards. It’s then on to Duignan’s for a social dancing session. Please inform your families and friends of this great weekend where you may meet some one that you have not seen for years. Bingo: Bingo continues in the Community Centre Drumsna on Thursday night at 9pm. Last week’s winners included, A. Murray, Maura Bohan, Raffle Marian Casserly, Martina mc Garry, Helen Toolan. Free books Elizabeth Spendlove, Ellen Gibbons.
Floral Pride: The judging Drumsna of for the Co. Leitrim Floral Pride competition takes place on Monday July 29th at 1pm. Everyone is doing great with their floral displays and keep up the good work and help your village to win one of the prestigious prizes.
Cystic Fibrosis: The Church gate collection in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Association at Drumsna came to 194 Euro. Thanks is extended to all who supported.
Rose of Tralee Function: Drumsna Comhaltas are hosting a special Traditional Rose of Tralee Function in McLoughlin’s Pub, Drumsna on Friday night, August 2nd, Admission is optional and everyone is welcome. The Leitrim Rose Edwina Guckian has brought great pride and joy to our village and surrounds and is the hard working secretary of Drumsna C.C.E. and we know that Edwina will do us proud in Tralee so come along and show your support and encouragement for her.
