OFFICIAL OPENING OF JOE MOONEY SUMMER SCHOOL: The Official Opening of the 25th Joe Mooney Summer School will take place in The Library, Lough Allen Hotel on Sunday next 21st July at 7.30 pm. The Opening for this Special year will be performed by our greatest exponent of the button accordion -the very popular Joe Burke -Joe and Ann Conroy Burke have given many years of their wonderful expertise to the School and helped to make it a school of traditional excellence.
Comhaltas Opening Session on Saturday night: Drumshanbo Comhaltas, friends and visitors will gather in BerrY’s Tavern on Saturday night 20th July to welcome all our friends ,old and new ,to the 25th Summer School -this has been the unbroken custom down the years and the number of our musical friends has greatly increased so the overflow may be stretching the length of High St. This is an open session so come along and give a Céad Míle Fáilte to all our visitors and Comhaltas friends from Belgium .Italy and France and beyond.
Beoga in Concert: To celebrate our 25th Summer School, we have a great treat in store on Sunday night, 21st July with Beoga in Concert at Lough Allen Hotel. This group of young musicians and fabulous singer Niamh Dunne are sure to add to an already full week of evens .Niamh has just brought out a solo album of songs also. Concert commences at 9pm and admission is €10 .

SPONSORED CYCLE: Eamonn McGowan and friends are taking part in a four hour Sponsored Cycle in aid of Irish Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust (IHCPT) which brings special needs children to Lourdes. The Cycle will take place in the Car Park between 6pm and 10pm.Please subscribe generously.
IRISH WATER SAFETY SWIM AND LIFE SAVING CLASSES: Classes take place 29th July – 2nd August at Drumshanbo swimming pool. Registration in Áras Phádraig this evening 17th July 3 -5 pm. The cost of class is €25.00.
BOXTY FEST: Calling all boxty enthusiasts. As a special event to mark the 25th Joe Mooney Summer School we are holding a boxty fest (Saturday, July 27th 3 to 5 in town centre). There will be an opportunity to sample Leitrim’s finest boxty. Also a competetion will be held to find the best boxty in Drumshanbo. If you are interested in taking part in the competition you will need to make a plate of boxty and bring for judging on Saturday July 27th.
