Amenity Area A No-Go For Visitors: Due to the ongoing car rallying and alcohol parties at the Amenity Area in Gulladoo between Arva and Carrigallen, it’s becoming a no-go area for those who enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the place every summer.
It’s so dangerous now with speeding cars coming to the area from across North Longford it will be unlikely that the swimming classes due next month will take place unless something is done. It’s a health and safety issue. A lot of money was spent a few years ago on the place erecting tables etc. Now people can’t even get near the place. These so-called hoodlums are known to the public and belong to very-well known and respected North Longford citizens.

Arva Show: The much awaited Arva Agricultural Show takes place on the last Sunday of July next. It’s the oldest show in Ireland and it’s going to be an even bigger and better event this year. A big day out for young and old and also comes of the same time as the Gathering which many former residents will come home for a break. More details later.

Remembering Ruairi O’Bradaigh: The people of Longford, especially North Longford were saddened at the death of Ruairi O’Bradaigh in Roscommon recently. He was a hugely popular TD for this region way in the years before my time. He canvassed the Moyne region on a bicycle and also walked our roads during election time. If you wanted a job, it was done, not like now.
He was also a very popular schoolteacher and the pupils he taught travelled the length and breadth of the world, such was the education they got from him. He was well-known and respected in Roscommon Town and the mass of people who turned out for his funeral on Saturday, June 7th was ample testimony to the esteem in which he was held.
Regardless of politics, it will be impossible to find another person like Ruairi O Bradaigh anywhere in Ireland. RIP.

Local Roads Are Grown Over: County councillors of any party need not be calling to homes in these rural areas looking for votes for the council elections if they do not get the roads in order. How about these councillors pay out of their own pockets to get a machine that will cut all this stuff? It would not cost very much money.
