Rural Tourism Networking and Animation Programme: As part of Leitrim Development Company’s Rural Tourism Networking and Animation Programme, from June to December 2013, eight best practice tourism workshops and networking events will be held. The first of these is being held at the end of June and is suited to those with an existing tourism business / enterprise or those thinking of starting a tourism business / enterprise. The title of the event is ‘Developing your Tourism Business and Effective Networking’. On yer bike for Gortlettragh gaa: An email to hand from Darren PRO Gortlettragh gaa and it reads as follows: Gortletteragh GAA Fundraising 25km Cycle! Gortletteragh GAA are holding our fundraising 25km ‘Tour de Parish’ this weekend on Sunday morning. We’re starting out from the park at 9.30am, and the cycle is open to all ages so we hope that lots of you will come out and get the day started with a cycle before the big game in Pairc Seán, There’ll be refreshments in the community centre after the cycle also! Sponsorship cards are out and can be got from any club executive member. Well done Ailbhe: Congratulations to Dromod’s Ailbhe McGill on her success in the Photographic Competition “My Perspective Photographic Competition 2013” which is run by the Down’s Syndrome Association. Ailbhe came 3rd in the competition which featured contestants from all over Europe a great achievement for her and her family. Ailbhe was presented with her prize at the awards ceremony which was held in Kew Gardens in London on Thursday week last.
Dawn Run: For the third year the Juice Plus 10k Dawn run /walk takes place 6am in Carrick on Shannon on June 22nd 2013.All details on www.runireland.ie Route as of last year, starting on the Castlecarra Road beside the Aldi store Dublin Rd. Register on the morning from 5am, €10 to enter. Walkers, Joggers, runners all welcome. Licence applied for with AA Ireland. Prize for first man and lady, and lots other spot prizes. This early morning event has become very popular, so come along and experience for yourself. Proceeds from event go to Leitrim Ladies GFA. Bornacoola gaa: Finished their Shield campaign on Friday evening last with a home victory over Cloone finishing on a scoreline of Bornacoola 1-8 Cloone 1-5. This leaves Bornacoola top of the table on 10points with neighbours Gortlettragh in second place on 8points.
Bornacoola Gun club: A note to hand from Bornacoola Gun club, the gun club members are currently undertaking a vermin control programme. If you have any problems with unwanted vermin, members will assist you with any unwanted ‘guests’ including mink, magpies, foxes or grey crows. The gun club has a big role in wildlife promotion, game conservation and habitat preservation and a vermin control programme is key to these aims. You can contact Shane Reynolds at 087 9751993 for further details. Also, If you have any problems with filling out your gun licence renewal application, the gun club members will assist.
