80th BIRTHDAY: We send our best wishes to Paul Quinn, Drumshanbo South, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday. We wish himself and Molly many more years of health and happiness.
RECENT WEDDINGS: The marriage took place on Friday, May 31st, at St. Mary’s Church, Gortletteragh, of Claire Byrne, Cattan, and Michael Kelly, Bagnelstown, CoCarlow. The celebrants were Fr. Patsy McDermott and Fr. John Quinn. The bride was attended by her sisters Jenny Gilmartin ( matron of honour), Edel Byrne and Patricia Guckian (bridesmaids). The groomsmen were Niall Kelly, Diarmuid Fenlon and Peter Bolger. The pretty flowergirl was Leah Gilmartin and the handsome pageboy was James Holden. The church music was provided by Lorraine McLoughlin. Following the ceremony, the guests emerged to the welcome sight of an ice-cream van dispensing 99’s all round. The happy couple, with their guests, then enjoyed a beautiful meal at the Landmark Hotel. The lively entertainment was provided by Gobsmacked and DJ Ken. We wish Claire and Michael a long life of health and happiness together. On Saturday June 8th, the marriage took place in St. Mary’s Church, Gortletteragh, between Teresa McGrath (England and Rossbeg) and Sean O’Connor, Charlestown, Co Mayo. The celebrants were Monsignor John Barry and Fr. John Quinn. We wish this couple many years of health and happiness. Congratulations to Jason and Siobhan Donohoe (nee O’Neill) who attended the church service of their marriage on Saturday last. The ceremony was performed by Fr John Quinn. We wish Siobhan and Jason many years of health and happiness together.
RECENT BIRTH: Congratulations to Michael and Helena Dorrigan (Navan) on the recent birth of their baby son Tom, a little brother for Genevieve and Jim. We wish this family much health and happiness.
Summer Social: The autumn club are hosting their annual summer social in the community centre on next Tuesday evening, June 25th from 8:30 - 11:30 p.m. Music by Tommy Hands and Michael Moran. Supper will be served. Everyone is welcome.
Autumn Club: The autumn club are travelling for their summer overnight stay to the Cooley Penninsula, Carlingford on Sunday June 30th. Those who have not already given their names, should do so on or before June 25th.
Group Water Scheme: The AGM of the Keeldra group water scheme will take place in Cloone community centre on Monday night, June 24th at 9 p.m. All members are requested to attend and in the meantime check for leaks and overflowing drinkers on their property.
Drumgowna School Reunion Committee:Our meeting scheduled for May 27th last was cancelled owing to the death of Sinead McPartland. At our last meeting on June 10th, a minutes silence was observed for Sinead and we all wish to convey our sympathy to the Brennan and McPartland families. We are now in the process of compiling the book which will be going to the printers shortly, but if there is still someone who has not yet submitted, it isn’t too late, so please put a pen to paper if you have something you would like included in the book. A reminder to anyone who may not like to part with photos please contact any committee member and they can be scanned at your house. It’s true the saying that a ‘picture paints a thousand words’ so the more pictures we have available for printing the more interesting and personal to the time the book will be. Bookings are now being taken for the lunch in Lough Rynn castle on Sunday August 4th. Please contact any member of the committee re same.
Gorletteragh National School Cash for Clobber Fundraiser: Gortletteragh National School want your old clothes in a Cash for Clobber Initiative. New or old unwanted clean clothing, footwear, bed linen and curtains will be collected by Cookstown Textile Recyclers on Wednesday 26 June 2013 from Gortletteragh National School. Please bring along the clothing on that day or the day before. Clothing must be in black bin bags or in Cash for Clobber bags which can be obtained from the school. Your support is greatly appreciated for this worthy cause!
Gortletteragh GAA Fundraising 25km Cycle: We are holding our fundraising 25km ‘Tour de Parish’ this weekend on Sunday morning. We’re starting out from the park at 9.30am, and the cycle is open to all ages so we hope that lots of you will come out and get the day started with a cycle before the big game in Pairc Seán. There’ll be refreshments in the community centre after the cycle also! Sponsorship cards are out and can be got from any club executive member.
