St. Ronan’s Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto jackpot when the draw was held last weekend. St. Ronan’s GAA Club: The club is taking part in a climb of Croagh Patrick on August 11th to raise funds for the club and St. Asicus Day Centre in Keadue. We’ve chosen St. Ascius as it provides a vital service to our own community and serves the whole parish as does our own club. We would appreciate your support with this charity fundraising. Miners Reunion weekend: Arigna Mining Experience is proudly celebrating the ten years Miners Reunion weekend. Friday August 23rd at 7pm Mass for all miners past and present will be celebrated by Fr. Faughnan at Arigna Mining Experience. Refreshments served afterwards. There will be live music in the Miners Bars at 10pm. Saturday August 24th at 7pm the Miners’s Dance will take place at the Lough Allen Hotel, Drumshanbo. Tickets for this event are E15 and includes supper. Sunday August 25th at 3pm there will be a guided walk on the Miners’s Way loopwalk around Dereenavoggy/Rockhill showcasing breathtaking views of Lough Allen and the picturesque Arigna Valley. This is a 5k walk which can take up to two hours so wear suitable footwear and clothing is essential. Those taking part should assemble at Arigna Mining Experience at 3:45pm. Septic Tank Inspections and Grant Scheme: Roscommon County Council will be commencing Septic Tank inspections over the next few months. Householders will be contacted by RCC in advance of an inspection being carried out. Only those who have been inspected and fail the inspection may be eligible for the Septic Tank Grant Scheme. To qualify for the grant you must have had your septic tank inspected by the Local Authority, registered your Septic Tank by February 1st 2013 and qualify under the means criteria set out in the scheme. Information leaflets on septic tanks and inspections are available in Libraries, all County Council Offices, Citizen Information Offices, Marts and online from EPA and Protect Our Water. Youth 2000 Summer Festival: Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary from Thursday August 15th to Sunday August 18th for young people aged 16-25 is an opportunity not to be missed to experience the Catholic faith and meet many new people. This Festival has been nicknamed the “Holy Oxegen” with over 1000 young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year. The festival is donation only. O’Carolan Harp Festival and Summer School: The summer school which was held during the past week was very successful with record numbers attending the classes and other events. The Festival commenced on Saturday with the Harp Competitions on this Saturday night, “Tale of the Gael” appear in concert in Keadue and Sean Brennan will provide the music for a dance in St. Ronan’s Hall. On Sunday, the official opening of the festival by Denis Naughten TD will be followed by outdoor entertainment by Sean Nos ar an tSionann, Shebeen and Liam Purcell and friends. Sharon Shannon and friends makes a return visit on Sunday night for what will no doubt be a sell out concert. On Monday a lecture in Kilornan Castle entitled “At home with Josie McDermott” will be given by former BBC producer Alan Tongc and in the afternoon Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones provide outdoor entertainment. The festival concludes with the International Door Dancing competition on Monday evening.
