Public Consultation: The Mohill Family Support Centre cordially invite you to participate in focus groups aimed at identifying issues that impact on the lives of people in Mohill town and surrounding areas. We hope people will come and help us with this, as the community’s contribution will help us to identify and plan responses and actions that can be part of our next Three Year Plan. The consultation will take place on Thursday the 8th of August at 8.00pm in the Canon Donohoe Hall. Refreshments will be served on the night. Everyone welcome.
Youth 2000 Summer Festival: A four day Youth Festival with workshops, inspiring talks, prayer concert and great music takes place in the Cistercian College, Mount St. Joseph Abbey, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary from August 15th to August 16th. Here you can relax, chill out, meet new people and give your faith a boost. There is no charge for this event. Free bus from Carrick-on-Shannon. Donations only. If you are between the ages of sixteen and thirty five years, you can be assured of a memorable time. Don’t forget to bring your sleeping bag. Book online at www.youth2000.ie. Talk: Anthony Nevard from the Catholic publication, “Daylight” gave a talk entitled “The Church and Evolution” on last Thursday August 1st at 8pm in St. Anne’s former Convent, Mohill. Refreshments were served.
Cystic Fibrosis: The Cystic Fibrosis Association wish to thank all who supported the recent collections at Eslin and Mohill Churches. The total raised was €485. Thanks to all the collectors who gave their time to this worthy cause. “A friend in need is a friend indeed”.
On Vacation: Mohill came alive with visitors over the Bank Holiday Weekend. It was lovely to see so many out and about enjoying the beautiful sunshine and our Irish hospitality, Peter Gordan and family, the Roger families, the Shanley family, Gallagher families, Sr. Ann Maxwell, Peggie Cunnion, Mary and Gene Pears, Rita Berry, Bridie Canavan, the Reynolds family, McDonald family and many more too numerous to mention. Mohill is the place to visit where you can enjoy meeting friends in a relaxed atmosphere. Come and enjoy the craic.
David and Orla Wed: Last month a very pretty wedding took place in St. Patrick’s Church, Mohill when Orla Duignan, Laheen, Mohill was united in marriage with David Walpole, Fenagh. The ceremony with Nuptial Mass was very largely attended and the beautiful music added to the joy of this very special occasion. Following the ceremony, a reception for family, neighbours and friends was enjoyed at the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon followed by a gala evening of music, dance and song. Their many friends here in Mohill with to join with me in wishing David and Orla a life filled with love and every blessing now and in the future. “Deo gratias”.
Knock Shrine: A bus will travel from Mohill to Knock Shrine on Thursday August 15th- the Feast of the Assumption. The bus will leave from O’Carolan Monument at 10:30am. If you are interested please give your name and the fare for the bus €12.50 to Mary or Ann in Mohill Post Office. “God’s love is like an evergreen tree, it thrives through every season”. “Prayer moves mountain”.

Town Collection: Committee Members of Mohill Agricultural Show will conduct the Town Collection on August 8th and 9th. Mohill Agricultural Show Committee are deeply indebted to the business people and the community at large for their generous support to Mohill Show at all times. Any business or Community Group that would like to display some visual displays of their products or activities on the Showgrounds on Show Day are most welcome to do so- please contact the Show Office before August 13th.
Show Meeting: A Committee Meeting of Mohill Agricultural Show will be held in J’s Hotel on Thursday August 8th at 9 o’clock. As this is our last meeting before Show Day it is important that all Committee members attend.
Mohill GAA Lotto: The numbers drawn on July 29th last were 6, 7, 9, 24. There was no jackpot winner. Lucky Dip winners were as follows 1st €70 Sandra O’Connor, Mohill, 2nd €40 Frank Reynolds, Killamaun, 3rd €20 Cormac Duignan, Eslin. The draw on Thursday August 6th was held in Cusack’s, Main Street with the jackpot at €14,000. Thanking you for your support. “If you are not in, you can’t win”.
Mohill Bluegrass Festival: The 3rd Mohill Bluegrass Festival kicks off this weekend at J’s hotel with the Down and Out Bluegrass Band. There will be a Bluegrass Gospel Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Mohill on Saturday August 10th at 8pm and also in St. Mary’s Church of Ireland at Sunday 11am as part of the Mohill Bluegrass Festival with a concert in Night Links on Saturday at 9pm, admission E5. There’ll be a session in Auris Carlon on Sunday at 2pm for our seniors, family and friends. Continuous music all weekend in the Marquee with Arts and Crafts stalls in the car park at J’s Hotel. Free BarBQ on Sunday (kindly provided by the Mohill Tidy Towns). Our Grand Finale will be held in O’Brien’s Bar on Sunday 11th. Social Dancing: Come and dance your cares away this Thursday August 8th in J’s Hotel, Main Streeet to the music of “Showbud”. Doors open at 9:30pm. Door raffle. Licensed bar and refreshments served. Extending a cead mile failte to all who wish the dance the light fantastic.
Remembrance: Prayers were offered at all Masses on Sunday last for the repose of the souls of Mary Smith nee Bohan, USA and late of McLaughra, Mohill, Greg McNabola, London and late of Corlaska and Patricia Rowley (Paddy), London and late of Main St, Mohill. Funeral arrangements later. To all who mourn at this sad time we offer our deepest sympathy. “They are gone no further us than to God”. May they Rest in Peace.

Eucharistic Adoration: There is Eucharistic Adoration every Thursday here in St. Patrick’s Church from 10:30am- 10pm. All are welcome to come and make a visit. “No decision is too small to ask God about, you might know what’s best but he does for sure”.
