Quinn Radiators in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh and Ballyconnell, Co Cavan looks set to reduce it’s workforce by 13 as part of a new restructuring plan.

Staff at the radiators industry were informed last week that the new streamline plan for the business will see a combination of redundancies and job relocations.

Seven jobs at the Design Office and UK Sales Administration team from Derrylin/ Ballyconnell will relocate to Newport Wales bringing the teams “closer to our biggest market where the greater opportunity exists.

The group also propose to “streamline other Radiators functions here which could lead to six redundancies.” Overall, under these proposals, the number of people in Radiators in Derrylin/Ballyconnell could reduce from 38 to 25, following a consultation process.

In a statement to the Leitrim Observer, the Quinn Group said “All construction businesses, the radiator market has been going through an exceptionally difficult time.

“Market volumes have decreased dramatically, and cheap imports to the UK from Eastern Europe have had a big impact. Even though our market share has increased, we still need to do more to strengthen our focus on design, to streamline our operations and to reduce our operating costs.”

They stated, “We are naturally disappointed that the question of potential redundancies arises. Where they do occur and where relocation may not be possible for any individual we will make every effort to redeploy them locally, and we are currently taking positive steps to facilitate that.”
