Carrick Chamber planning a St Patrick’s Day parade with a difference!
2013 is a pretty important year for Carrick-on-Shannon, it’s the year when we will celebrate our 400th birthday. There are festivals and events galore being planned and it has the makings of a year that will go down in history!
The first festival of this celebratory year will be St. Patrick’s Day and this year Carrick Chamber are planning a day packed with fun and festivities which will bring people from near and far to the streets of Carrick-on-Shannon!
A Parade with a Difference! The day, as always, will begin with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, but for this year’s Parade we’re encouraging local businesses & community groups to work together to create a Parade with a Difference!!
Collaborate and Celebrate together! Carrick Chamber are inviting local businesses and Community Groups to join forces to create a street theatre spectacle together! Very simply, if you are in business and have an affiliation with a community group be it a sports club, charity, local school, or a youth or other community group, we are inviting you to pair up and design, create and parade your entry together! If you don’t have an existing affiliation with any community group, maybe this is a good opportunity to develop one
The theme for the Parade is ‘Celebration!’ The first thing you’ll need is someone to design your entry. If you don’t know any yourself, the Chamber has a database of experienced artists who would be suitable to assist you as you plan your Parade. The artist will work with you and your community group to design and make the floats, costumes and props that will become your entry. They will also choreograph the people from your community group that will be involved. If you want to include other people like stilt walkers or fire breathers, then they’ll organise that as well.
A Better Parade! It’s good for a business to have a presence in the parade, it’s wonderful marketing and it lets people know you’re here - but the main purpose of the parade is to entertain. The more your entry can wow people, the more colour, spectacle, wit and charm you present in your entry, the better it reflects on you, and the more people will recognise that your business is part of our community. Your entry can stretch to the limits of your imagination and the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it!
We urge you all to make a very special effort this year to participate and to create a Parade that will join the business community with the greater community of Carrick-on-Shannon and its hinterland. Let us all create a Parade with a Difference!
In the next couple of weeks we will be holding an informal session in the Landmark Hotel for businesses, artists and community groups where we will provide some information about how to go about developing your entry.
