Celebrity wedding set for Aughavas

There has a been a buzz of excitement in the Aughavas area recently following rumours that the 'Wedding of the Year' between Irish Rugby Captain Brian O'Driscoll and actor Amy Huberman will be celebrated in St Joseph's Church, Aughavas this summer.

The Irish celebrity couple have already confirmed that they will hold their wedding reception in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel, but the location of their wedding mass has been hotly debated in the area.

This week the Leitrim Observer can confirm that St Joseph's Church, Aughavas has been approached to hold the wedding ceremony but no personal contact from the engaged couple to the Parish Priest has been made yet.

There has also been some word on the ground that a local business has secured a contract to provide a service to the dashing couple's wedding mass.

When the news broke last September that the celebrity couple were to hold their wedding in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel in 2010, the Leitrim Observer reported "There were local rumours that St Joseph's Church, Aughavas had been chosen as the sanctuary for the golden couple to celebrate their nuptials."

At the time the Parish Priest Fr Sam Holmes said "no contact had been made" but did welcome the couple to celebrate their wedding mass at the parish church.

This week Fr Holmes said that Brian and Amy "may be considering four to five churches around the Mohill area" and that St Joseph's Aughavas was one of them. Fr Holmes said that a lot of work goes into planning the wedding mass but, as of yet, no meeting or contact has been made between him and Brian O'Driscoll or Amy Huberman.

Fr Holmes said the parishioners are "very excited" about the prospect of the couple making their wedding vows in Aughavas, and he said it would definitely "bring some excitement as well as revenue to the area."

The Irish celebrity couple have been dating since early 2007 and got engaged in March 2009, a few days after O'Driscoll captained Ireland to an historic Grand Slam victory.

The couple are still keeping tight-lipped about the date of the wedding but it believed that it is planned for July this year.
