Chef Louis Oubie serves 165 people a 'thank you' meal to celebrate one year in business

by Fiona Heavey

An overwhelming crowd were treated to a very special free meal at Louis’ Restaurant in Keshcarrigan at the weekend to celebrate the chef’s first year in business.

Head chef and owner of Louis Restaurant, Keshcarrigan told the Leitrim Observer that he invited almost 100 people to a special ‘Thank you meal’ last Friday night, July 16. He said he wanted to thank all his loyal customers and friends who supported his business over the past year.

The event which ran from 5.30pm - 9.30pm took a life of it’s own when over 165 people attended the event.

Louis Oubie said customers arrived who had travelled from afar and those who arrived from the boats, who he was not expecting came to the restaurant and Louis said, “I couldn’t turn them away.”

So Louis served all 165 people a delicious and creative four course meal, all on the house.

As the only chef in the kitchen with five waiting staff and 860 dishes to prepare and cook, Louis still made time to come out and meet with his customers!

It was an unbelievable night for everyone who attended, they were treated to Louis’ fine dining experience and enjoyed the craic with all the other customers. There was even music afterwards for everyone to enjoy.

Louis said he could not have expected the crowd he received, and when asked how he managed to cater for all these people. He said “ I don’t know how I did it, but I did!”

Louis said the past year has been tough and he has relied on customers who return again and again to experience his food.

The Moroccan native who has been living in Ireland for 14 years, is a fully qualified chef and even has qualifications to lecture on cooking as well as having over four years experience cooking with Celebrity Chef Neven Maguire.

Louis said he loves his job and likes that he has control over what he cooks and how it is prepared and his customers certainly love his food. Louis notes that there is “no microwave in my kitchen” which means everything is freshly cooked.

Last Friday night was such a success that Louis had to turn away people from the restaurant late in the night because “I had no food left!”

But these customers will not be forgotten and Louis said he will hold another thank you night for these and other regular customers next week.

Louis would like to thank all his customers for their support, the waiting staff on the night and Dessie and Kathleen Foley.
