Leitrim councillor, Martin Kenny, has been nominated to contest Sinn Féin’s selection convention to become the candidate for the North West constituency in the next EU election.

Leitrim Sinn Féin will be holding their county AGM in the Bush Hotel this Thursday night, 21 February at 8.30pm. The meeting will bring members from all over the county to select the new officer board and engage in political discussion. Prospective candidates for the upcoming EU parliamentary election will also attend and address the meeting.

Sinn Féin party members from across the 11 counties that make up the North West constituency will select the candidate at a convention to be held in the coming weeks..

There are a total of three nominees going forward to the convention; Cllr Martin Kenny from Leitrim, Cllr Rose Conway Walsh from county Mayo and Cllr Matt Carty from county Monaghan. All three will be seeking the support of the Leitrim Sinn Féin membership at the Comhairle Ceantair AGM. The meeting will also be addressed by Micheal Colreavy TD and there will be a presentation on the new Dáil constituency boundaries recently revealed.

This year also brings the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis to the west, as it is taking place in Castlebar in April and party members will be given a presentation on the theme and focus of the Ard Fheis.
