Continued call for ‘complete ban’ fracking

A unanimous motion was passed by representatives of 12 groups in this region who are opposed to hydraulic fracturing at a Drumkeerin Community Hall on Wednesday, January 23.

It said ‘We confirm our call for a complete ban on hydraulic fracturing and all its associated practices and processes’. John Bailey acting secretary for Fight Fracking said the offer for people to engage and thereby collaborate with the EPA, a government agency funded by the Environment Department, does not take into account the Government refusal to state what its policy is on fracking.

The Fight Fracking Group are now seeking that local group GEAI (Good Energies Alliance) be included on the steering committee to decide the Terms of Reference for the new EPA research report.

Dr Elish Cleary, Chief Medical Officer of Health, New Brunswick, Canada, was a guest speaker at a seminar held in the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen on Monday January 28. If fracking goes ahead close monitoring is required so, as Dr. Cleary says, “This will allow for modifications, including if warranted, a slow down or halting of further development”. A copy of the report is available to download from the FFAN website www.frackaware.com
