Sewerage extension
A spokesperson for the Council has admitted a proposed sewerage extension at Drumshanbo may not be economicallly feasible under the proposed Group Sewerage Grant because of the cap of €6,500 per house or 75% of the overall costs.
The news came following a question put forward by Cllr Enda McGloin at the Janaury Council meeting.
Cllr McGloin asked the Director of Services, Infrastructure to consider putting forward proposals to the Department of Environment under the local sewage extension scheme for the area from Blackrock to Mahanagh, Drumshanbo.
“This area is in close proximity to Lough Allen and in my view would be an appropriate location for such an extension. Some years ago maps were prepared and a minor study done and I would ask that consideration would be given to re-examine this area to see if it would fit the relevant criteria under the new pilot scheme.”
Camber Road, Aughavas
Noting the poor condition of the Camber Road in Aughavas, Cllr Martin Kenny has asked that remedial action be carried out at this location.
He was told the Council would inspect the road and take what remedial action the limited resources of the Council would allow.
Forestry bond
Independent councillor, Gerry Dolan has asked the Council to make it a formal requirement that all forestry owners sign a Bond which would make them “100 percent responsible for road damage” before they extract any timber.
It was noted the matter had come up for discussion at the Infrastructure SPC last December.
At that time it was agreed that a “full consultation would take place with all stakeholders involved with the forestry industry in Co Leitrim in order to resolve such issues as damage to the road network during forestry activities.”
“It is not legally possible at present to force forestry companies to provide a bond to cover the costs of any road damage. This will be discussed during the consultation process and following completion of this process the matter will be referred back to the SPC.”
