Dairies praised

Thomas Rogers, Chairperson of Cavan ICMSA, has recently praised the commitment of Lakeland Dairies intention to pay the maximum possible milk price in 2013.

“Given the financial pressures on farmers as a result of extremely poor weather conditions during 2012, it is absolutely essential that the highest possible milk price is paid - and paid as early as possible - as bills on farms are unfortunately growing by the day,” he acknowledged.

The ICMSA delegation has raised a number of concerns relating to Lakelands’ proposed changes to the winter and seasonality bonuses schemes and Mr Rogers has said he was satisfied that Lakeland Dairies would take these concerns on board when finalising there plans.

Mr Rogers said that milk price is the key issue for Cavan dairy farmers and he hoped that Lakeland Dairies would again ‘lead from the front’ in 2013.
