Disappointing performance

Our Intermediate footballers were dire on Saturday last. For the large number of supporters who expected that the great efforts put in by the panel into training all year would be rewarded with a good result, it was a disappointing performance. It was evident that the players themselves were most disappointed. They knew that they never got into the game. Hopefully they realise that they gifted 1-5 to Aughawillan from short passes that were intercepted. They must also ask themselves why they were consistently beaten for the breaking ball. Having watched the Juniors playing Allen Gaels the previous weekend where our lads were also consistently beaten for the breaking ball one may conclude that it is lack of match practice is the major contributory factor.

There is so much emphasis now in the modern game on fitness with not enough emphasis on playing football. May one humbly suggest that the training routine for the next fortnight will have football matches between the players with all places up for grabs and good man to man tussles for possession. And no handpassing.
