Drumshanbo taxi driver held at knife point en-routeto Limerick

A taxi driver from Drumshanbo suffered a harrowing experience on Sunday night/Monday morning last when he was held at knife point by a passenger who demanded that he be taken to Limerick.

The passenger entered the car at the taxi rank in Carrick-on-Shannon at approximately midnight and initially requested he be taken to Roscommon town. When the journey to Roscommon was completed the passenger then demanded he be taken to Limerick.

The driver initially refused this request but when the passenger produced a knife and threatened him with it, he was left with little choice but to transport the man to Limerick.

Upon arriving in Limerick the passenger assaulted the driver before stealing a small sum of money and some personal effects

The Garda Press Office confirmed an investigation is ongoing regarding the incident which is said to have occurred at O'Malley Park, Limerick at 4am on Monday morning last.

The passenger is said to have made his getaway by foot in the direction of Limerick City centre.

The suspect is described as being in his mid-40's, six foot in height, of strong build, with dark hair and was wearing glasses and a three-quarter length jacket.

The investigation is currently ongoing and members of the public with any information are asked to contact gardai at Roxboro garda station at (061) 214340 or gardai in Carrick-on-Shannon, who are assisting with the investigation at (071) 9620021.
