Sympathy Expressed The death has taken place of Mrs. Máiread Duffy (nee Doyle), Dristernan and formerly Ark low Co. Wicklow (peacefully) following a long illness at St.Patrick's Hospital, Carrick –on-Shannon.
The late Mrs Duffy who was predeceased by her husband Jimmy in 1997 came to live in Drumshanbo with her husband in family in 1985 where they owned and managed the former High bank Cafe (now Enda's Take away) on the High St. Miread and her family became involved in several local voluntary organisations and was for many years a member of the St.Patrick's Church Choir. We extend our deepest sympathy to her daughters Joan, Jenny, Ann sons John and Francis son in law Tawfik and Enda sister Angela, brothers Paddy & Sean, grandchildren and other relatives and friends. The Funeral took place to the New Cemetery on Monday last following Requiem Mass in St.Patrick's Church. Ar dheis D go raibh a hanam.

Senior Citizens Meet

Drumshanbo Area Youth Club

The Community Smoke Alarm Scheme for vulnerable households are aimed at private houses where there are no smoke alarms and arrange for supply of same. Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)

Drumshanbo-Locquireac Town Twinning
The Drumshanbo Town Twinning Association has received a request from their twin town Locquireac in Brittany to hosta group of students in Drumshanbo towards the end of September. The students who are aged 13-14 will stay with host families in the town and district. The purpose of the visit is to help the students improve their language skills and to provide the students with a firsthand experience of Ireland which in turn will foster stronger links between our two communities. Sad passing of Nuala Kellett (nee Kiernan)
Kellett Nuala (nee Kieran), 16 Dorchester Park, Sandymore, Runcorn WAT QAC England and late of Kieran's Medical Hall, High Street, Drumshanbo. May 28th (peacefully). Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving husband Bill, sons Michael, Ronan, Dermott, daughters Nicola and Deirdre, stepsons Iain, Colin and stepdaughter Sue. Her funeral took place on Friday June 4th from St.Edward's RC Church Runcorn. ''Ar dheis de go raibh a hanam dilis''.
Pilgrimage to Fatima 2010

Pilgrimage to Oberammergau
A group from Carrick-on-Shannon are organising a Pilgrimage to Oberammergau in Germany for the Passion play in that area which takes place every ten years. The visit is from 14th -21st July 2010 inclusive .Cost per person: €1595.Contact Rita McWeeney on 9621505.

Drumshanbo Comhaltas news
Many thanks to all who took part in the Session at the Town Clock, Carrick-on-Shannon on Bank Holiday Saturday 5th June to promote and fundraise for the Connacht Fleadh which is being held in Mohill and hosted by Drumsna and Mohill CCE. It was a great afternoons entertainment on a glorious sunny afternoon. Also thanks to the Sweeney family who helped out with the church gate collection in Leitrim village on Sunday 6th June. It was much appreciated. A special words of thanks to everyone who gave so generously to the collection. All monies raised will go towards the hosting of the Connacht fleadh. All branch members, please check out and enter the fleadh competition in the Leitrim Observer.
Volunteers required
Volunteers are still required for the hosting of the Connacht Fleadh on the first week-end in July. Please call Mary on 086 2309791 if you would like to assist on Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th July in Mohill.
Drumshanbo Area Community Games Swimming
The community games area swimming competition was held in the Lough Allen Ramada Hotel Drumshanbo on Friday June 4th. It was a very sucessful evening and thanks to all those parents who helped out and in particular Kevin Mc Manus and the staff for all their assistance. Thanks also to all the children who participated. This was the first Drumshanbo area qualifier for a number of years and it was great to see so many swimmers turn up. There were some close competitions and fiercely contested groups in particular the U10 girls which added great excitement to the evening. The results were: U8 girls freestyle 1st Maria McGreneghan, U10 girls freestyle 1st Ellen Cunningham, 2nd Hannah Bird, 3rd Roisin McGreneghan, U12 Girls freestyle 1st Megan Hearle, U14 girls freestyle 1st Naoise Bird; U10 girls backstroke 1st Ellen Cunningham, 2nd Roisin McGreneghan, 3rd Hannah Bird, U12 Girls backstroke 1st Megan Hearle, U14 girls backstroke 1st Naoise Bird; U12 Girls breaststroke1st Megan Hearle, U14 girls breaststroke 1st Naoise Bird; U8 boys freestyle 1st Seamus Wisley, U10 boys freestyle 1st Jack Hearle, U12 boys freestyle 1st Liam Cunningham, 2nd Shane McGreneghan;U10 boys backstroke 1st Jack Hearle; U12 boys breaststroke 1st Liam Cunningham, 2nd Shane McGreneghan. Girls U13 relay team: Ellen Cunningham, Megan Hearle, Roisin Mc Grenaghan, Hannah Bird, Sub Megan O Rourke. Boys U13 relay team Liam Cunningham, Shane McGreneghan, Jack Hearle.
Well done everyone. Winners will be going through to the Leitrim area final in Aura, Carrick on Shannon on Sunday 13th starting at 7pm. Keep up the practice!
