Failing to pay household charge will result in service cuts

Failing to pay the household charge will result in a cut in the level of services provided by Leitrim County Council.

Speaking at the recent Council meeting, Cllr Enda Stenson sought clarification on the actual impact of not paying the Household Charge.

“There is an agenda out there urging everyone not to pay and saying that if you don’t pay nothing will happen. Is this the case?” he asked.

County Manager, Jackie Maguire, said that the 2012 Local Government allocation to all counties around the country, including Leitrim, had been awarded on the expectation that a certain amount of money would be collected through the Household Charge.

“If this money is not collected then it won’t be available for us to spend and services will have to be cut. That is the reality,” she said.
