The farmers of Thur Mountain vow to protect their serene environment from fracking this week as Tamboran Resources reveal the first analysis phase of their work programme.

A seventy year old farmer from outside Kiltyclogher has vowed “If we have to have placards on Zimmer frames, we will protest against this.” He is one of many local Glenfarne - Kiltyclogher farmers who is appalled that their way of life and their rugged farms could be destroyed by a process to extract gas from underground.

Tamboran Resources have released a statement this week claiming they will create 600 jobs, if given the go ahead, from the “substantial natural gas field” which is located around Thur Mountain in North Leitrim. They revealed that the land contains up to 2.2 trillion cubic feet of shale gas and they will invest over €7 billion in Ireland as well as set up a local community investment fund.
