Fatal collision on N16

The Sligo Manorhamilton N16 was closed last Thursday, October 22 following a fatal traffic collision at Doonally, Sligo in which a 56 year old pedestrian was killed.

The man who was killed instantly when he was struck by a lorry as named locally as John Lyons from Yeats' Heights, in Sligo.

Mr Lyons was crossing a four-road junction at Fossett's Bridge, on the Manorhamilton road (N16), four kilometres from the town centre, when the accident occurred.

He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards and his body was removed to Sligo General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was carried out.

The victim is believed to have been single and worked as a switchboard operator at St Columba's Hospital, Sligo.
