editorial image

Excitement is growing around Cloone with the 10K Race and 5K Fun Run/Walk rapidly approaching. This event will be held this Sunday, May 27. It is really bringing out the community spirit and the organisers would like to thank everyone in advance for all their help.

Both the 10K and 5K will be starting at the Cloone Community Centre and heading up the hill after Creegans Bar and then towards Keeldra Cross. The 5K will take a turn to the right, do a half a circle that will bring it back onto the main road and back into Cloone.

The 10K will continue until Keeldra cross and at this point will turn to the right. It will then head back into Cloone via the Mohill road. There is a map of the race routes posted on the Cloone GAA facebook page and both routes will be well sign-posted on the day.

Everyone is welcome from people who just want to go for a Sunday stroll to the fast pace runner. All under-age must be accompanied during the race.

The 10K will commence at 1pm and 5k at 1.15pm. The entry fee is €10 and there is a family rate of €20. On-line €10 registration is available through Run Ireland up until Friday evening OR entries will be accepted on the morning of the race from 11am.

The course has been measured by a Jones Wheel and the 10K will be manually timed. The 5K Fun Run/Walk will not be timed but there will be clock at the finish for anyone who wants to check their time as the cross the line. For the 10K there will be prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female to finish and there will also be prizes for the 1st male and 1st female to finish wearing their football jersey in the 10K.

All proceeds raised will go towards paying for the recent renovations carried out on the Cloone GAA football pitch dressing rooms and press-box facilities.

Best of all there will refreshments in the Community Centre after the event. So please come and support. Cloone GAA really look forward to seeing you on Sunday, 27th.
