Job cuts will not impact on BOI branch network
by Fiona Heavey
Bank of Ireland has confirmed to the Leitrim Observer that there will be “no impact within the branch network” despite last week’s announcement that 750 people will lose their jobs from the company.
The announcement of job cuts comes after it received approval for its restructuring plan as required under State aid rules last week.
The Leitrim Observer contacted the bank’s press office to establish if these job cuts will impact on the four BOI branches in Leitrim. Anne Matthews, BOI Media Relations Manager said the announcement was “no big surprise” following the approval of capital for it’s restructuring plan. Ms Matthews said that the cuts will come from support and operation staff. She said “There will be no impact on core activities” and stated that there will be no redundancies sought from Bank of Ireland branches in Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumshanbo, Manorhamilton or Mohill.
Bank of Ireland employs more than 14,500 people.
In a statement, the bank said the job cuts would help it achieve its objectives to become more focussed and efficient. It also said the existing pay freeze will continue but will be reviewed in April and December of next year.
