Kasey Smith who has strong Mohill and Leitrim connections failed to secure the votes to represent Ireland in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

Kasey Smith had all of Leitrim supporting her bid for the Irish Eurovision song last Friday, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

Kasey, who has strong Leitrim and Mohill connections gave an excellent performance on The Late Late Show last Friday night, February 22. She failed to get the public and judges vote and it was Ryan Dolan who was chosen to represent Ireland in the 2013 Eurovision song contest to be held in Malmo, Sweden, in May. Dolan, wrote and performed the winning song Only Love Survives.

Kasey who told fans on Twitter “Thanks so much for all your support!!! Had an amazing 2 weeks ;) Big kisses X” following her defeat, will be hopeful that the national exposure will help catapult her singing career.

Kasey’s grandmother Bernadette Smith, formerly Conlon resides in the Mohill area. Kasey has great uncles and aunts dotted all over the county, with relatives living in Dromod, Bornacoola, Mohill and Leitrim Village.

The 22 year old who regularly visits relations in Leitrim was a former member of the Irish girl band Wonderland. Kasey hopes to break into the music industry soon, she recently returned from a songwriting stint in Nashville, where she collaborated and recorded with top writers who have had credits with artists such as Lady Antebellum and Kenny Chesney.
