Leitrim cherished number plates

“Cherished” Leitrim number plates could help raise funds locally for the council according to Fine Gael councillors Enda McGloin and John McCartin.

Cllr Enda McGloin asked the council to call on the Minister for Finance to consider meaningful changes to the car registration system for the 2013 year to ensure that the Motor Industry in the county can avoid any further losses of jobs through poor car sales. He also called on the Minister to consider introducing a ‘cherished number plate system’ which has the potential to raise significant revenue without affecting ordinary motorists. Cllr John McCartin agreed with the motion for cherished number plates to be introduced to help local coffers. The Government are considering bringing in a new licence-plate system next year so that cars registered from January to June will have a ‘131’ registration and from July 1 to December cars will have ‘132’ on the plate.
