Leitrim children encouraged to write with flair

EBS in conjunction with the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) last week launched the 2013 EBS/INTO National Handwriting Competition and their annual campaign to highlight the importance of having good handwriting. The competition, which is running for 21 years, is open to all pupils of national schools throughout the country.

The competition traditionally attracts entries from over 100,000 children all over Ireland each year. The theme of the 2013 competition is ‘playtime’. Entries are judged on style, flair, neatness and layout of handwriting.

Speaking at the launch, Anne Fay, President of INTO said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the 2013 INTO/EBS Handwriting competition. The competition has been a huge success over the last twenty one years. Our aim is to celebrate the skill of handwriting among all children from infants to 6th class. As always style, flair, neatness and layout of handwriting are the criteria that judges use to assess the entries. I would like to thank EBS for their continued support of the competition.”

Emma Hunt-Duffy, CSR and Marketing Manager, EBS said: “EBS has a long association with education and has been partnering with the INTO for over two decades to ensure the skill of handwriting is kept alive among the youth of Ireland. The competition is one of the oldest traditions that EBS continues to run with the INTO. Each year we are amazed at the number of entries we receive nationwide and I hope this year will be no different. I wish everyone the best of luck with their entries and encourage everyone to get writing!”

Entries are received in categories ranging from infants to 6th Class, with a Special Education prize also being awarded. The closing date for entries to the 2013 EBS/INTO National Handwriting Competition is Friday, February 22.
