Locals taking to the roads in memory of Sandra

editorial image

A year after the death of their dear friend Sandra Earley, the Kiltubrid Ladies GAA team are holding a special ‘Ard na Spéire’ 10km run/4km walk on February 24 in memory of the talented footballer who represented Leitrim as well as Kiltubrid with distinction. Walkers, joggers and runners are all encouraged to take part and help raise funds for ‘Heart House’ which is a family heart screening clinic at the Mater Foundation, Dublin for families who have lost loved ones to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

A quick glance at the list of honours won by Sandra gives an indication of the impact she had on the football pitch. While competing at underage levels from U-12 to minor Sandra and the Kiltubrid Ladies won every title available to them while at adult level she won two Senior ‘B’ Championships; one Intermediate Championship; one Senior League title and a nine-a-side league title while she also represented Leitrim at both underage and senior level.

In preparation for the Ard na Spéire event weekly training sessions have been held in Kiltubrid to ensure those who would like to take part, but may feel their fitness levels aren’t as good as they would like them to be, will be able to take a full part in the event.

In order for the event to be a complete success the Kiltubrid Ladies are hoping members of the public and businesses will be able to offer assistance. If you or your business would like to contribute to running costs please contact Sheila Guckian (087) 2850377.

The help of the public is also being sought to ensure there are enough stewards present on the day and if you are able to offer your services for this role you are asked to contact Derek on (086) 6089662.

Registration for the ‘Ard na Spéire’ event will be open from 12.30pm in The Sheemore Inn, Kilclare on Sunday, February 24 with an entry fee of €10 or €15 for families. For further information please email ardnaspeirerun@gmail.com or phone (087) 1337322.
