Martha blossoms on stage at the Rose of Tralee

Leitrim Rose Martha Gilheaney certainly did the county proud during her live interview on stage of the Rose of Tralee on Monday night, August 24.

The fourth Rose out on Monday evening, Martha looked every bit the blossoming Rose in a beautiful full blush pink gown and was certainly very bubbly and charismatic as she smiled her way throughout the interview with host Dith O'Se.

Martha described her Rose of Tralee adventure as "the best thing that I have ever experience in my whole life."

She recalled a funny family expedition to the Cliffs of Moher before she went on to explain 'Shaylyn' the Irish music and dancing group she formed with her sisters. Martha did not forget to give Ballinamore some good publicity before she told the packed dome that she was destined to win the Rose of Tralee because she won the award for 'most likely person to win the Rose of Tralee' back in College!

Martha finished off her appearance with a beautiful heavy reel, performed to perfection by the experienced dancer, but this was not before Dith got the chance to sing a song for Martha as she put on her dancing shoes. Martha got a superb cheer at the end of her performance and was well supported by a huge Leitrim and Ballinamore crowd.

Martha received some unexpected good news Monday night when her escort Tralee man Robbie Costello (26) won the Newbridge Silverware Escort of the Year Award at the 2010 Rose of Tralee International Festival.

Martha's right hand man throughout the Tralee festival is a translator for Reuters in Limerick and was representing the Derry Rose Centre. Robbie described his selection as "an honour and a privilege especially being a local man".

Although the Rose of Tralee was crowned last night, Tuesday August 24, the paper had gone to press before the results were in.
