National hot air balloon Championships coming to Leitrim

The excitement is building in Drumshanbo and Carrick on Shannon with the news that the Irish Hot Air Balloon Championships will be held in Leitrim in September 2013.

The Hot Air Balloon Championships were last held in this part of the country about twenty years ago. Parents and grandparents have been telling children about the great spectacle and colour that the festival brings to the area.

Leitrim County Council has been instrumental in bringing the festival to Leitrim as part of the Carrick on Shannon 400 Celebrations. The Festival, which will take place between September 23rd and 27th 2013, will be headquartered in the Lough Allen Hotel and Spa in Drumshanbo. It is expected that there will be between 35 and 40 balloonists taking part in the event with potential morning and evening flights.

“There will hopefully be plenty flying days in the Drumshanbo, Carrick on Shannon area, and we will be working with locals to ensure maximum enjoyment by all” stated Ray Leslie, from the Irish Hot Air Balloon Championship and Chief Organiser for the 2013 event. He added “the enthusiasm of Leitrim County Council, the Lough Allen Hotel and Spa and Moorlands Equestrian Centre was instrumental in winning the bid to host the event in Leitrim in 2013 “.

Further details of the event will be listed on the Carrick on Shannon 400 website, www.carrickonshannon400.ie as we get nearer to the event.
