Nearly €7m in roads allocation welcomed

County Leitrim’s Roads Allocation for the year has come in at €6,889,322.

Under this €744,000 has been allocated for specific improvements on a number of bridges including Kilroosk, Lissuan, Cappagh, Fenagh, Drumlea, Corn Mill and Unshinnagh.

Specific improvements schemes have also been earmarked for the R202 from Tamlaght to Dromod and the R280 at Cloonagh.

Low Cost Safety Improvement Works have also been given the greenlight on Largydonnell Bridge on the R280;the L3310 at Kiltynashinnagh and the Fearnagh and Kinlough Junctions.

Funding has also been provided to complete the second phase of traffic calming on the R280 at Killargue and to carry out work at the Junction of the R209 and R280 at Drumheckil (Fingerboard).

Under the current round of funding work will also be carried out on the L3385 at Aughnaollop, Drumshanbo; the L1055 at Tooma; the junction of the LS7418 and R299; the R201 at Laheennamona and the R210 at Drumcong.

The Galley Bridge on the R280 has also been included in the Low Cost Safety Improvement Works in 2013.

Local councillors, TDs and Senators have welcomed the news as a timely investment in our roads network.

A significant portion of the National Roads allocation will go towards the realignment works on the N16 which will involve the removal of a number of dangerous bends and road resurfacing.
