No sign of Taoiseach in flood stricken Leitrim
Despite visiting flood stricken regions in Counties Cork, Clare, Tipperary and Galway the Taoiseach did not travel to Co Leitrim to see areas similarly devastated by recent flooding.
Residents and business people who fell victim to the rising waters expressed their disappointment after the Taoiseach travelled to other counties affected but did not make his way to Co Leitrim.
Local politicians, some of whom are from the Fianna Fail party, have also been vocal in their condemnation of the Taoiseach for not visiting those affected by flooding locally.
"I'm calling on the Taoiseach to come down here and see the devastation that has affected the lives of people in Carrick-on-Shannon and Leitrim Village in particular. The West doesn't end at the border of Galway," pointed out Fianna Fail Cllr Francis Gilmartin.
Carrick Chamber President, Gerry Faughnan said he hoped that the county would be included in any national compensation scheme following the disastrous weather of the past week.
The Taoiseach has issued a statement emphasising that flood protection schemes will remain a priority for the Government and the cabinet met yesterday (Tuesday) to see how best to help those affected by flooding.
At the time of going to print no details had emerged of what plans or money would be allocated to those affected.
