Public information evening on Carrick 400

A Public Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 6 at 6pm in The Bush Hotel to outline the full line up of events taking place to celebrate Carrick-on-Shannon’s 400th anniversary.

There are over 100 events planned as part of the 400th Celebration year. The Carrick-on-Shannon 400 Celebrations will be officially launched by President Higgins on February 15 next.

The purpose of the meeting on February 6 is to outline to all the people from the town the range of events which are taking place during the year and ways in which people can get actively involved in events.

The range of events planned start with a special 400th themed St Patrick’s Day parade and Fringe festival and will include a Summer Festival over 10 days in May-June, the HUP Traditional Music Festival in July followed by the Connacht Fleadh and the Water Music Festival.

There is also a range of sports events including 10km runs, 60 and 100Km Cycles, Tri-A-Tri and golf events. Other additions to the calendar this year include the Heritage Festival, a range of Heritage Exhibitions, Boat shows, etc.

It is expected that there will be a massive influx of people for events such as the Community Games, GAA Club Sevens and Connacht Scor.

These events are being organised by local people and there is plenty opportunity to get involved. So, if you have made a new year’s resolution to get involved in something new or take up a new activity, this meeting might be the very thing to help you get started.

The year will provide a range of activities for all ages so to find out what is going on, put 6pm on February 6th into your diary.

This event is being organised by the Carrick-on-Shannon Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Leitrim County Council.
