Quinn family support group condemns sabotage of rally

In a lengthy statement issued to the Leitrim Observer this week, the Concerned Irish Citizens Group have condemned what they describe as the “persistent and vindictive, taxpayer funded attempt by Anglo to sabotage the rescheduled rally” which is set to take place in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan at 4pm this Sunday.
“In a week when the shameful statistics were revealed that 87,000 people were forced to leave our shores and that the gross cost of bailing out IRBC (Anglo) is €52 billion, the story that made front page news in one of the leading national Sunday newspapers was about how much Sean Quinn’s daughter may or may not have spent on her wedding cake,” noted the CIC. “To add insult to injury, (a subsequent issue of) the Irish Independent carried another story about the cake in which a senior minister, Joan Burton, waded in with her comments about the famous cake.”
The CIC criticised the Minister for “entertaining such a non-story as this” adding that the story was about Anglo and not about a cake.
“Whatever the sole shareholders of the Quinn Group, ie. the Quinn adult children, may or may not have chosen to spend their money on, is totally irrelevant and those who attempt to manipulate readers and listeners into believing otherwise are insulting the intelligence of the citizens of Ireland who see this scam for what it is, and are instead only interested in stories of real substance,” argued CIC.
They renewed their call for answers to why Quinn’s proposal to repay €2.8b was “inappropriately discarded” and asked how much had been recouped in the Anglo strategy. They also asked for Matthew Elderfield to produce the professional advice he relied on before putting Quinn Insurance into administration and accused Michael Noonan of misleading “the people of Ireland on the day of the takeover” in relation to bondholders.
The CIC is also renewing calls for an explanation on why the Quinn Group was “seized prior to the legitimacy of the debt being established in a court of law and sought clarity on the Quinn debt following the seizure of the business.
“It is time for the people to get answers to critical questions ... and they will get answers at the rally in Ballyconnell,” vowed the CIC in their statement to the Leitrim Observer.
“Contrary to reports again broadcast on our national airwaves this week, CIC reiterate once again that no buckets will be passed around at rally and nobody will be asked for money, and those who suggest otherwise are part of the conspiracy to sabotage the rights of the citizens of Ireland.
“The cover up is about to be exposed and no amount of gutter tactics in the next week and a half is going to stop that. The peaceful revolution of change and education has begun,” the Group maintained.
