Refurbishment plans for Farnaught Dispensary

Tenders were recently sought to assist with preparing surveys, historical research and design proposals for the restoration/refurbishment and expansion of Farnaught Dispensary Farnaught, Mohill. Promoters Dolores and Vincent Reynolds, Tooman, Mohill, are looking at developing the property for use as niche self-catering tourism accommodation.

The structure is a detached four-bay single storey structure, built around 1850. It was the former dispensary of the Lough Rynn Estate.

At the moment the premises is in poor structural order but it still retains its original form, features and materials and is similar in design to the various lodges, houses and other structures on the Lough Rynn Estate, which are also protected structures.

The promoters have sought the services of an appropriately qualified multi disciplinary team led by an experienced and qualified conservation architect to assist in preparing: all necessary surveys; relevant historical research and documentation relating to Farnaught Dispensary building; design proposals for the protected structure and its setting; architectural heritage impact assessment; and other investigation and exploratory work as necessary.

Tender applications closed last week.
