Sixty years a priest

On Thursday evening last following the celebration of a Special Mass in St Patrick's Church, Ballinamore to mark the arrival in the town of the annual Down & Connor Cursillo Walk to Knock Shrine a presentation was made by the Pastoral Council on behalf of the Community to Fr Seamus O Dubhtaigh P E, Ballinamore, to mark the sixtieth anniversary of his ordination.

Fr O Dubhtaigh who came to Ballinamore twenty years ago this year was ordained on June 18th 1950 and served in the diocese of Kildare & Leighlin, Drumkeerin, Ballyjamesduff and Ballinaglera before coming to Ballinamore. A further presentation was made by a member of the Cursillo group which has been doing the pilgrimage walk for a number of years following the same route and overnighting in Ballinamore.

They began in Armagh on Tuesday, and with overnight stops in Clones, Belturbet, Ballinamore, Boyle and Ballaghaderreen reach Knock on Sunday where they join up with similar groups from Derry and Dublin.
