Spoiled votes seek justice for Sean Quinn

Sean Quinn continued to grab some limelight from his prison cell at the weekend as a number of ballot papers in the region were spoiled by voters who wrote messages of support for the jailed businessman.
Spoiled votes in the Children’s Referendum in his favour were found in Roscommon- South Leitrim, Cavan-Monagahan and Galway East during the count on Sunday morning, November 11.
In what would seem like an orchestrated and organised demonstration three ballot papers in Roscommon- South Leitrim had “Free Seán Quinn” scribbled across them.
One voter in Cavan-Monagahan wrote: “We want fair play for Seán Quinn.” And a spoiled vote in the Galway East constituency said: “Free Seán Quinn, he’s a good man.”
The messages of support on the ballot, followed the arson attack on an electrical substation at the wind mills previously owned by the Quinn family on the Ballyconnell Road in Derrylin on Thursday night, November 8.
Police said an electrical substation at the property on Ballyconnell Road in Derrylin was set alight Thursday evening, and they believe the fire was “started deliberately.”
No one was injured but the fire caused substantial damage.
The wind farm is one of a number of businesses in the area once run by the Quinn family that were placed into administration after Quinn went bankrupt.
The PSNI want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or anyone who has any other information that could assist the investigation. It is understood locally that the attack was a direct response to the jailing of Sean Quinn for Contempt of Court on November 2.
A “Free Sean Quinn” Facebook page has over 4,670 likes, at the weekend it was hinting at another protest being organised in the area next week. The page asked it’s supporters who could be around “next week for a protest Monday or Tuesday.”
Following the release of pensions and salary figures being paid to the IBRC Executive, Concerned Irish Citizens are now calling on all political parties and individual public representatives to demand an independent public inquiry into Anglo/IBRC.
Concerned Irish Citizens “now seek clarification in line with constitutional rights on how much money has been recouped and is expected to be recouped in the Anglo strategy on Quinn, how much public money has been spent by Anglo on legal, PR and other associated costs and how much is expected to be recouped. Crucially, how does all of this compare with the 2.8 billion that was on offer from Quinn”.
