Tamboran invest €20k in Manor Enterprise Forum

Manorhamilton Enterprise Forum have accepted w20,000 from Tamboran Resources, the company proposing to frack for gas in North Letirim, in the hope of setting up a hotel in the town.

The business forum announced their intentions on Manorhamilton on Monday, April 30. They plan to investigate the feasibility of applying for planning permission and design of a hotel on the St Clare’s Hall site.

The Forum believes the lack of a hotel in the town is hindering economic and tourism development in North Leitrim. The Forum re-grouped last year to examine ways in which it could help to deliver jobs and investment in the community.

A spokesman for the Manorhamilton Enterprise Forum said online they were delighted to have made progress in its plans to build a hotel in the town. The Manorhamilton Enterprise Forum met representatives from Tamboran Resources last month (reported in the Leitrim Observer on April 13) to discuss issues and concerns surrounding their project. “An unconditional offer of €20,000 funding has been accepted by the Forum to assist the planning and design phase for the development of a Hotel.” The Forum has written to other companies seeking support for this initiative.

The Forum said it was they who “made a formal application for funding” to Tamboran. In the online post they say, “We are delighted that Tamboran has responded positively to our request and we are confident that others too may come on board,” they go on to thank the gas company for it’s support.

The move by the Manorhamitlon Enterprise Forum is getting mixed reviews from locals, some think it is innovative way to fund a hotel in the area, but others who are against the unconventional fracking method proposed by Tamboran called it “short sighted.” In the comments section some said “there is no such thing as a free handout” and questioned the conditions behind the funding. Carol Flynn stated “If you have any respect for our community you would hand that money back with a public appology from the very people who made this arrangement.” Jamie Murphy made a stand by saying “This Business forum does not speak on behalf of our community.”
