The i102-104 thief causes chaos across the North West!

i102-104, the music driven regional radio station that launched on the 7th of February this year has launched its major station promotion, the i102-104 Thief – causing chaos across the West and North West!

From last Monday 6th of October, listeners have been challenged to catch the Thief at a different location in the West and Northwest each day. The Thief, a nasty character with an attitude who mocks the listeners claiming they are too dumb to find him, calls into the radio station live four times a day and gives a clue as to his whereabouts.

Listeners that correctly guess his location must race there and ask everyone they see “Are you the i102-104 Thief” in order to claim the Bounty. The Bounty amount changes each day however, bosses at i102-104 have pledged that they will be giving away lots of cash in the coming weeks to those clever enough to locate the Thief.

Speaking about the frenzy sweeping across the region, General Manager of i102-104, Rena Maycock had this to say – ‘The response to the i102-104 Thief has been phenomenal – we’ve had people reporting attempted thefts to the Gardai, claiming that they were accosted in the street by listeners looking for the Thief; some listeners are taking holidays and calling in sick to work so they can hunt the Thief; groups of friends are fanning out to improve their chances of catching him/her; businesses are being overrun with hunters – in one case an eager listener pulled open the door of a changing room at a well-known retail outlet shouting at the unwitting occupant “Are you the i102-104 Thief”; there has been chaos in Letterkenny and Carrick-on-Shannon with hoards of people gathering to try and find him. It has become less about finding the cash, and more about catching the Thief that everyone has grown to hate! The text machine is going crazy all day with listeners looking for more clues or guessing where he is, we are just astounded at the response that we’re getting.’

The Thief was located last Thursday 9th October at the Johnston Court Shopping Centre and lucky listener Caroline Warnock collected the Bounty of w3,000. Shop owners at the shopping centre reported large crowds General Manager, Rena Maycock says the rules are very simple – ‘Ask as many people as you can “Are you the i102-104 Thief?” and if you ask the right question the Thief MUST admit who he is however please be careful of phonies – the i102-104 Thief will never ask you to accompany him anywhere and he will never approach you – he will wait to be approached.’

She also says that this is only the tip of the ice-berg - ‘The i102-104 Thief is just warming up so by the time he’s caught for good, he’ll have made his mark on Galway, Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Longford and Donegal and as we are determined to have him caught, we promise to be giving away plenty of cash – Bountys will be as high as w5,000 on some days so don’t forget to ask “Are you the i102-104 Thief?” – the Thief could be standing right next to you, right now…’
