Tractorcade raises over €3,000 for Hospice

The money raised from the very successful charity Tractorcade held on New Year’s Day by Manorhamilton IFA was presented to North West Hospice recently at a function in Heraghty’s Bar. In total €3,318 was raised and the number of tractors participating was 58, exceeding the number in last year’s inaugural event.

Speaking at the presentation, Manorhamilton IFA Chairman Kieran Fox paid tribute to the farmers from the area who took part. “Ultimately, the success of this event depends on them and on the wider community who contributed so generously” said Kieran. “I would also like to thank everyone who made the safe running of the event possible. Hi-Viz vests were sponsored by Killasnett Co-Op and Manorhamilton Mart and we really appreciate their support. Those who volunteer to act as stewards on the day are also vital to the safety of the event and I would like to thank them as well as the Gardai.”

“Tommy and Bernie Heraghty facilitated meetings to prepare for the run & they also hosted tonight’s presentation so many thanks to them.

PJ Leddy helped us with publicity for the event so I would like to express our thanks to him and to Liam Malaniff for taking photographs on the day as well as to those who put up signs, those who sold sponsorship cards and all those who helped in any way.”

Accepting the proceeds on behalf of North West Hospice, Maeve Butler explained that the hospice provides assistance to 500 people with life-limiting illnesses each year. “Unfortunately every one of us will experience, either directly or indirectly, the need for the services that the hospice provides. The annual budget for the hospice is about €2 million and 50% of that comes from fundraising. I would like to thank Manorhamilton IFA for choosing us as the beneficiaries of this year’s Tractorcade and to thank all those who donated to it.”

County Leitrim IFA Chairperson Pat Gilhooley complimented the organising committee Kieran Fox, Liam Gilligan, Enda Fox, Pat Munday, Eugene Fox, Charlie Cullen, Liam Gallagher and Tommy Heraghty for putting on the event.
