Voluntary redundancy offered to all Quinn Group employees

A voluntary redundancy package has been extended to all employees of the Quinn Group in Ballyconnell and Derrylin for a limited period of time.

According to the Quinn Group, they want to be able to offer “redeployment to people displaced as a result of proposed or actual changes.” The group said there are some individuals “ who have expressed an interest in a voluntary parting package if such was available to them.

Accordingly we are prepared to make available, across the Derrylin/Ballyconnell businesses, a very limited voluntary parting package for a limited period to help facilitate these relocations.”

As reported last week, 13 jobs are set to go from Quinn Radiators as part of a new restructuring plan, the voluntary redundancy scheme is understood to be part of an opportunity to allow some of these employees to be redeployed within the group.

Local Sinn Féin Councillor Martin Kenny however said that the scheme is “being dressed up as creating redeployment opportunities in other parts of the business.”

“It certainly makes no sense of the assurances by the new management and indeed Minister Michael Noonan TD that retaining the jobs is the main priority.

“This is devastating news for the Quinn Group workforce and the entire local economy and community, which is heavily reliant on these jobs. The employees of the Quinn Group deserve to know what the future plans for the Group are.

“As a significant employer in this community it is imperative that measures are taken to preserve the jobs in this area.”

Cllr Kenny pointed out, “The Government is now a major shareholder in the Quinn Group, therefore Minister of Finance Michael Noonan TD should have a say in any substantial loss of jobs within the company.

“Unfortunately the Government are allowing the Anglo or IRBC appointed management to cut jobs and run down the former Quinn companies, but it can be absolutely certain that the excessive fees and salaries of those now in charge are not being cut.”
