Wanted - men and women to take part in boxing fundraiser for heart and stroke charity
The Irish Heart Foundation is calling on local people to don their boxing gloves and get into the ring in aid of this worthy charity.
Big-hearted Carrick-on-Shannon men and women are being urged to kick off 2013 with a bang and take part in the ‘Big Heart Fight Night’. The Irish Heart Foundation’s challenge will raise funds for the national heart and stroke charity’s life saving research and educational programmes.
The Irish Heart Foundation is offering men and women of all ages and fitness levels the challenge of getting fit and stepping into a boxing ring for this fundraising boxing challenge. No previous boxing experience is necessary as participants will train for 7 weeks in the basic of boxing and the fitness and stamina needed to compete in one three round bout.
The night itself will take place in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon on Friday 5th April where an 18ft ring will provide the centrepiece for a night of personal achievement. Training will commence on Monday 18th February in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Each of the participants will be asked to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship which covers their training and equipment, the running of the night and a contribution towards the Irish Heart Foundation. The challenge is open to anyone and you don’t have to have any boxing or sporting experience.
David Muldoon, Regional Fundraising Manager with the Irish Heart Foundation said, “This promises to be one of the biggest events in Carrick-on-Shannon in 2013. We are looking for big-hearted men and women to take part. The idea of stepping into a ring for most people is beyond their comfort zone and this is what makes it such an exciting challenge. The format allows for anyone to take part, both men and women. They know that the money they raise will go towards helping beat heart disease and stroke which remains the countries combined biggest killer”.
The Irish Heart Foundation, which was set up in 1966, is also asking local businesses to get involved in the Big Heart Fight Night. Companies can sponsor a member of staff, or any participant, to take part and there are sponsorship packages available to businesses including promotion on the night and being involved in the pre-fight promotion.
“The more local businesses involved the more money we will raise over the 8 weeks and on the night”, says Mr. Muldoon. This will allow us greater resources to drive our messages into the Carrick- on-Shannon region. And it will also allow for some friendly rivalry among the Carrick-on-Shannon business community, which is always welcome”.
Mr Muldoon also added that he was delighted to announce that the Leitrim Observer will be the print Media Partner for this year’s event. Without the support and cooperation of such an established paper it would be impossible to run this event and the Irish Heart Foundation are very grateful to the Staff at the Leitrim Observer for their support.
