Gardai are urging motorists to slow down and be wary of black ice as temperatures hit below freezing in the coming days.

On Tuesday morning three cars were involved in a collision on the N4 near the Drumsna turnoff.

Nobody was injured in the accident but the cars sustained substantial damage in the accident which occurred shortly after 7.20am.

Emergency services were called to the scene and traffic was diverted around the accident until services were able to remove the vehicles.

A spokesperson for Carrick-on-Shannon gardai has stressed the danger of icy roads and urged motorists to slow down and leave a good distance between themselves and the car in front of them.

Meanwhile, dangerous conditions were also reported in north Leitrim. A car which was travelling on the R281 between Glenfarne and Kiltyclogher left the road in the early hours of Tuesday morning, although no injuries were reported.

With temperatures set to fall dramatically in the coming days motorists are advised that conditions will remain treacherous on our roads.
