Inmate held over on-the-run murder

A convicted criminal has been arrested in prison over the knife murder of an apparent love rival while on the run.

The 25-year-old man was picked up by gardai in the Wexford area on Thursday and returned to jail in Dublin were he was officially cautioned.

He is being questioned over the killing of James Ryan at his rented home in Hollyville Heights, Wexford at about midnight on Tuesday.

One line of inquiry is that the 27-year-old victim had been in a relationship with his attacker's ex-girlfriend.

The prisoner was arrested in Wheatfield Prison, Dublin, and has been detained at Wexford garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

It is understood the suspect had been at large after securing Christmas release while serving five years for an assault which left a man in a coma.
