Carrick-on-Shannon train station missed out on provincial glory at last Monday’s Train Station Awards ceremony which was held in Dublin.

Carrick-on-Shannon train station missed out on provincial glory at last Monday’s Train Station Awards ceremony which was held in Dublin.

Westport and Ballinasloe stations were nominated, along with Carrick-on-Shannon as the best stations in Connacht with Westport announced as the winner.

Other winners at the Station Awards were Mullingar, Co Westmeath (Leinster), Killarney, Co Kerry (Munster). Hazlehatch and Celbridge station, Co Kildare was named as the best commuter station while Malahide, in north County Dublin was named as the Best Dart Station. Hazlehatch and Celbridge station was also named station of the year

The awards were based on 15,000 votes submitted by Irish Rail customers.
