Community groups in Leitrim could miss out on their chance to receive funding if they don’t get their skates on and apply to SPAR’s €50,000 ‘Helping Hand’ Community Fund before the deadline closes this month.

So far, only one group in the county has registered and Olympic Gold medallist Katie Taylor – patron of the fund – is encouraging more clubs and organisations to apply before time runs out.

SPAR has set up the ‘Helping Hand’ Community Fund to celebrate its 50th anniversary in Ireland. There is an overall award of €10,000 up for grabs, along with five €2,800 awards and 26 €1,000 awards – one for each county in the Republic.

Applications can be made under one of the following five categories: Children & Youth; Community Services & Support; Heritage & Environment; Sport & Leisure; and Arts & Culture. Funding will be awarded on the basis of those local groups deemed to make an important contribution to their communities and in need of additional financial support to carry out their work.

Groups, clubs and organisations should visit www.spar.ie and register their interest by completing the online form to receive a token collector card. Closing date for submission of collector cards and completed on line applications is 30th June. Judging will take place in July and funding recipients’ will be announced at a presentation event with Katie Taylor towards the end of Summer.
