CARRICK’S Costello Memorial Chapel, the second smallest church in the world will celebrate the renewal of wedding vows this month.

A Canadian couple, Nick and Mary Lee Konyi, have requested to have thier 20th Anniversary Wedding Vows Renewal and Blessing at the Costello Chapel. Through the Carrick-on-Shannon Heritage Group, the ceremony has arranged a short ceremony for 3.30pm on Wednesday next, April 13.

The Costello Memorial Chapel is considered the smallest chapel in Europe and second only to these islands and the second smallest in the world.

The Konyis live near the smallest chapel in Canada, and thought it would be a nice gesture to do a wedding vows renewal at the Costello Chapel during their holiday visit to Ireland.

The event will be celebrated by Rev. Noel Mills of The Rivers Group (a Methodist group currently using St. Mary’s Hall for its services while it seeks a more permanent place), and local people have been engaged for their services including Brian Duignan for video and photos, Norma Duignan for flowers and Colm Spellman providing transportation. The couple will be staying in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel, Mohill.
