Ireland North & West MEP Marian Harkin recently hosted an exhibition showcasing the “amazing work by SMEs in the West of Ireland”.

The exhibition, timed to coincide with the end of the Irish EU Presidency, featured client companies of WestBIC (the official EC Business & Innovation Centre in the Border, Midland & Western region of Ireland).

“A selection of internationalised West of Ireland SMEs were showcased from food technology to robotics to marine technology to media and medicare sectors,” she told the Leitrim Observer this week.

“The EU market access dimension of the WestBIC service offering is essential in helping such companies counter adverse market conditions, lack of critical mass, and benchmark their competitiveness from concept stage,” Harkin said, adding that “this internationalisation footprint is essential for knowledge- based companies in particular.”

Joe Greaney, former EBN President, who led the WestBIC exhibition, said: “this opportunity to showcase a selection of our Region’s rapidly-growing companies gives serious weight to what we are doing for these companies now for the past twenty five years,” adding that “the commitment and long term supportive approach of our MEPs is of enormous importance to this work”.
