FG Councillor, Gordon Hughes, has welcomed the funding from Leitrim Development Company (LDC) towards the operation of a new bus route between Ballinamore and Carrick-on-Shannon.
Cllr Hughes thanked Gerry McGourty and his staff in Leitrim Development Company together with various local interest groups for their input.
He added that Ballinamore is the only town in South Leitrim with no bus service enabling people to connect with either a bus or rail service to Dublin and said this will be a welcome development. It will also have knock-on benefits for local tourism.
The new bus service will start on Tuesday, September 24 and will operate twice daily on Tuesday and Friday.
If successful it is hoped that this pilot scheme can be retained in the new year. Fares are charged on a staggered basis from €5 single to €8 return from Ballinamore to Carrick-on-Shannon. See the timetable on page 9 of this paper.
