Public meeting in Carrick on October 12.
Diabetes effects 1 in 3 Irish families.
The Leitrim Branch of Diabetes Ireland are holding a free public education meeting in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon on Wednesday, October 12 at 7.30pm.
Diabetes Ireland health professional Pauline Dunne, Senior Dietitian will discuss eating well with Diabetes. Ms Dunne will discuss dietary requirements for the person with diabetes. There will be some time for questions also.
Clair Naughton, Diabetes Nurse Specialist, for Diabetes Ireland will discuss the ABC of Diabetes Management, Ms Naughton will provide a general update on the aims of diabetes care and the importance of the annual review. She will also discuss the importance of diabetes self management with an emphasis on physical activity and knowing the targets for blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels and foot care.
“Diabetes is a life-long condition that can be managed well by following a healthy lifestyle, taking medication and with ongoing support and education from the diabetes healthcare team. We hope that by attending this meeting the attendees will pick up some tips on how best to manage this chronic condition and get answers to any questions that they may have.” explains Ms Dunne.
